The "Boiled Dinner"...A Classic.

If you are Irish I bet you have eaten some variation of this meal. The "Boiled Dinner" has been something I have enjoyed my whole life. This particular Boiled dinner was without question one of the better ones I have had because of the cut of Corned Beef, this version being a "flat" cut.

I like how simple this meal is...corned beef, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and onions. They are boiled together creating a delicious, salty, meaty water...OK, so maybe the water isn't "meaty", but it's awesome. I would drink this broth by the gallon if it was socially acceptable.

This is probably one of my favorite comfort foods that I can think of.

  1. Where did you get this boiled dinner? The presentation is lovely. It's nice when the components aren't boiled so much they all fall apart into a lump of unrecognizable bits and pieces.
You're also fond of drinking pickle juice, aren't you ? ;)

  2. Funny that you should ask that, Lana, because my wonderful chef of a husband and his mother made it. Didn't Joe do a lovely job with the presentation? The dinner was actually really delicious, which I have to say surprised me - I mean who would think that boiled meat would be good? I agree with you, I think the secret is not overboiling it all into a mushy flavorless mess.
